nature and education
nature and education
In the current postmodern society with a lot of experiences so much time spent on the computer or on watching television there is almost no more conscious contact with our natural environment. The natural balance of congenital cohesiveness of humans with other forms of life is broken. The lack of contact with nature increases problems with health, concentration and creativity. By resuming the human-nature relation, nature can be an alternative, complementary or preventative remedy against the emotional and physical stresses that people nowadays have to cope with. (Richard Louv, 2007)
This educational program has been developed in collaboration with Dr. Hans Jansen (Bristol University), Stanny Stockman en Johan van Daal (VZW Josta), Eefke Bastianen (Equimio) and Ineke Edes (Hogeschool Utrecht). We instruct teachers and social workers how to cooperate with nature (animals included) in their professional work to reach social, emotional and (medical) pedagogical goals.
Eco Mediated Pedagogy (EMP) is part of the study programs of pedagogy (bachelor and master) of the Institute for Ecological Pedagogy of the Hogeschool Utrecht (www.hu.nl).
In these programs students will be stimulated to a lifetime of experimental learning and integration of theory and practice within the pedagogical concept of Levend Leren (Real Life Learning).
Every situation in raising and educating people is a new pedagogical challenge, which deserves it’s own answer in relation to all parties involved. In our program you will learn to make choices, to clarify your choices and to reflect on which you may use to inspire colleagues.
The program Eco Mediated Pedagogy focuses not only on your performance, but also on the development en reinforcement of your personal and professional qualities. Professionals in the field of activity will be involved in the program and the development of your education.
